Introduction

I am a language teacher and I taught in several countries: France, Canada, the UK and finally Lesotho, a small country in Southern Africa. I moved to that region many years ago but I go to France regularly to visit my family so I have kept strong links with my home country. After teaching in a variety of establishments for 25 years (from primary schools to university departments via the Alliance Fran莽aise and adult community centers) , I decided to stop formal teaching and I now run a guest house where I organize, among others, French Immersion Weekends. Thus I continue to share my love for the French language and the culture of French-speaking countries. I also give private lessons to both adults and children at different levels.

Teaching style

I do not have one teaching method. I believe it is better to combine different teaching approaches to obtain the best results. Communication is a key word for me but I do not favor speaking only in the target language because I want students to feel comfortable. So if I have to use a bit of English while teaching French, it's fine. I am very flexible and I adapt my teaching style to the age, level, personality and interests of my students. Some will need to be given clear grammatical explanations while others will prefer to use their intuition to complete their own sentences. My role is to support them in their language learning with whatever tools they need. Of course enjoyment is another key word: if you have fun while learning a language, it will be much more effective.

Hobbies

I enjoy running a guest house because I love meeting people. In my time alone, I enjoy reading, going for walks or swimming as well as listening to the radio and to music. My three adult children and my twin grandchildren all live in South Africa so I visit them whenever possible.

I've visited or lived in the following countries: Most of Western and Central Europe, Canada and the USA, most of Southern Africa plus Uganda , Israel/Palestine.
