To pass the BJU exam you need to demonstrate that you are able to communicate about complex business subjects in Japanese.
You need to be able to read and write business communication in Japanese to a level that will not hinder the business you are working in.
Even if you speak Japanese well, there is vocabulary that you may not be familiar with in the business environment that you will need to learn.
The Business Japanese Proficiency Test (BJT) measures the Japanese language communication skills required for business situations. These skills refer to the ability to clearly explain a situation in Japanese to people who come from a different background or field of expertise, the ability to promote a project, request clarification, and ask questions to other parties.
In addition, this ability includes not only verbal communication skills, but the ability to understand and use Japanese with the aid of common business media like text, diagrams, photographs, emails, and to appropriately perform tasks suited to a business setting.
The duration of the test is 2 hours, and it consists of 80 questions. The results of the test are represented by a score of 0 - 800 points. In addition, there are six ranks (J5 to J1+), depending on the score, which are given as a measure of ability.
The BJT is not simply a test for measuring Japanese or business knowledge. The test assumes a basic knowledge of Japanese and objectively measures the ability to process and respond appropriately to the provided information. For that reason, the questions cover the full range of situations which may arise in a Japanese-language business environment.
Knowledge of Japanese grammar and vocabulary and business practices is regarded as premise knowledge. Test content covers general, conversational and situational levels of comprehension.
