The Spanish past anterior tense (also called pretérito anterior) is rarely used in modern Spanish. It has been replaces by the past perfect tense. The past anterior tense was used to describe an event or action that took place right before something else.

Remember: these verb charts are only a tool to use while one is learning the language. In other words, one must eventually forget the verb chart and it must become second nature.
